The hair transplant surgery can essentially be divided into three stages
First, the hair to be transplanted (hair follicle units, grafts) is extracted from the donor area
Depending on the method of hair extraction, we primarily use the so-called FUE hair transplant, a method of individual extraction (Follicular Unit Excision - FUE hair transplant). In special cases, the so-called FUT hair transplant, strip extraction method (strip technique) may also be recommended. In every case, follicular units containing one or more hairs are extracted from the safe donor area at the back and sides of the head, and these are later transplanted as grafts to the balding areas.
In the second stage, we prepare the recipient sites in the hairless area
In the third stage, the extracted hair (hair follicle units) is implanted into the recipient sites
Hair Transplantation as an outpatient procedure
Anesthesia
Hair transplant surgery usually lasts 6-8 hours, is a minimally invasive and painless procedure, with only minor discomfort. Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia. After the injections, we can ensure complete anesthesia of the scalp and the operated area during the operation, so the intervention is essentially completely painless.
At the beginning of the operation, local anesthesia is administered at the site of injection by injections into the scalp. We do this partially, i.e. we anesthetize only a small area at a time and then proceed step by step. We have to give injections later in the recipient area (in the front hairline, crown of the head). Anesthesia involves unpleasant or minor stinging pain, but we use several techniques to reduce the associated discomfort. These include local cooling, vibration, minimally sized needles, and the use of small volume syringes. Anesthesia is not a problem for the vast majority of patients. Of course, individual differences are possible, which can be handled with sufficient patience and competence.
How long does a hair transplant take?
The duration of a complete hair transplant is typically 6-8 hours. During the procedure, you are free to sleep, chat, drink, move around, and the time passes quickly while listening to pleasant music or watching a movie. In our clinic we perform one day hair transplantation with 3-4000 grafts (6-8000 hairs).
After the surgery, the patient can go home. At Sikos Hair Transplant Clinic, the hair transplant surgery is always performed by an experienced doctor with the assistance of the clinic’s well-trained staff!
