When is hair transplantation recommended for women:
- Restoring hair loss caused by hereditary female pattern baldness
- Filling and enhancing the frontal hairline. Concealing a high forehead and lowering the hairline
- Other types of hair loss (e.g., after surgery, injury, radiation, or for covering scars)
Conditions for female hair transplantation in case of hair loss:
Hair transplantation for women is mainly recommended if the hair quality and density in the donor area are adequate and if the patient is willing to undergo the potential temporary thinning phase. If we proceed with the hair transplantation, we can achieve good results.
For women, hair loss (female pattern baldness) often causes much more distress than it does for men, understandably. Unfortunately, hair transplantation is not always recommended due to the limiting factors outlined in the text. We do not want to raise false expectations for our distressed female patients. At Sikos Hair Transplant Clinic, conscientious care and professional expertise ensure that if hair transplantation for women is recommended, it will also be successful.
Unfortunately women hair loss is frequently affects the donor site
In female hair loss cases, a diffuse thinning pattern often develops on the crown area, which can start as early as the patient’s 20s. This means that hair in certain areas becomes increasingly thin and sparse, though some hair may still remain scattered throughout. If the thinning and loss of hair extends to the donor area, the low hair density often makes surgical replacement (hair transplant) impractical. Although technically feasible, the available effect would be minimal.
To address this issue, we might use the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique, which is less dependent on the density of the donor area, as it allows us to utilize the full available zone with safety. However, this technique often requires completely shaving the donor area, which is rarely acceptable for women.
For women, we usually employ the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) strip method, as it does not require shaving the hair and the resulting thin scar is less visible in long hair. The FUT strip method is a modern and effective procedure that can achieve natural and reliable results.
Combining FUT and FUE techniques can increase the number of available grafts. In this case, we perform FUE extraction above the FUT donor area where the hair can cover the shaved part. Partial shaving allows for FUE hair transplant (extraction), with the remaining long hair covering the shaved donor area. Typically, around 1,000-1,500 grafts (approximately 2,000-3,000 hairs) can be transplanted, which may be sufficient for certain cases. Additionally, it is sometimes possible to perform FUE extraction while keeping all the existing hair.
Due to these circumstances, a follow-up (density-enhancing) surgery may be necessary for female hair transplants.

Hairline advencement for woman
A special option for women with high foreheads is to enhance the hairline and lower it through hair transplantation, achieving a completely natural look. After the procedure, you can even wear your hair swept back! Many women have had a high hairline since birth, which can be a concern due to a high or large forehead. Hair transplantation can achieve beautiful results for women by lowering the hairline, covering a high forehead, and enhancing the hairline. Typically, this procedure requires about 2000-2400 grafts (approximately 4000-5000 hair strands) for an average deficiency, which provides full coverage. Naturally, a smaller number of grafts (e.g., 1000 hair strands) would not yield a satisfactory result. We can also provide natural coverage for hair loss due to facial surgeries, such as scars from facelift procedures or thinning areas. Scar coverage, hairline enhancement, and hair transplantation for women can be successfully achieved.
Naturally, women can also undergo hair transplantation using the FUE technique. In this case, hair trimming is required at the donor site, but it is not necessary to cut the hair at the recipient area.
